Reciprocal medical care

If you are travelling to another European Economic Area (EEA) country you should obtain an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before you travel. This will provide you with free or reduced cost medical care in the EEA and some other countries. You can apply for one online, or by calling 0845 606 2030 or by filling in a form, which is available in Post Offices. The form will tell you the exact treatment which individual countries offer under the scheme.

In addition, the UK has reciprocal healthcare agreements with Anguila, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the British Virgin Islands, Croatia, the Falkland Islands, Georgia, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Montserrat, New Zealand, Russia, St Helena, Serbia and Montenegro, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Uzbekistan and the Ukraine.
